I. New words

  • dust (v): phủi bụi  => dust (n) : bụi
  • fish tank (n): hồ cá, bể cá
  • empty (v) : làm cho rỗng, đổ, trút ra   => empty (adj)  : trống, rỗng
  • ache (v, n): đau nhức
  • repairman (n): thợ sửa chữa

II. Grammar

Modal verbs  ( động từ khiếm khuyết )

must  + V(B.I)   : phải (1 nghĩa vụ, 1 bổn phận phải làm 1 việc gì đó)

must not = mustn’t  = V(B.I) : cấm, không được phép (làm 1 việc gì đó)

have to / has to + V(B.I)  : phải làm một việc gì đó do tác động từ bên ngoài.(Tuy nhiên chúng ta cũng có thể dùng must và have to với ý nghĩa như nhau)

ought to = should + V(B.I)  : nên (diễn tả lời khuyên hoặc đề nghị ai đó nên làm 1 việc gì) . Lưu ý câu hỏi ta đưa ought ra trước chủ từ, câu phủ định thêm not ngay sau ought

 Ex: We ought to learn the new words.

        Ought I to come by taxi?

        You ought not to talk loudly in class. 

III. Language focus

  1. Look at the pictures and complete the dialogue.

(1): have to/ must tidy

(2): have to/ must dust

(3): have to/ must sweep

(4): have to/ must clean

(5): have to/ must empty

(6): have to/ must feed

          2. Look at the picrures. Use OUGHT TO to give advice to these people

           a. You ought to study harder.

            b. You ought to get up earlier.

            c. You ought to go on a diet./ You ought to eat more fruit.

            d. You ought to go to the dentist’s.

  1. Grammar: Đại từ phản thân (Reflexive pronouns)

  • Đại từ phản thân được dùng:
  1. Nhấn mạnh

Ex: I did my homework  myself

      I myself did my homework 

  1. Làm túc từ cho động từ

Ex: Romeo killed himself.

  1. By + reflexive pronouns: mang nghĩa một mình.[OT1]

Ex: She goes to school by herself

II. Language focus

  1. Complete the diologues. Use the reflexive pronouns in the box. You will have to use some of the reflexive pronouns more than once.

            2.  Ask and answer questions about Hoa, Nam, Ha, Nga, and Mrs. Vui using Why-Because.

a. Why did Hoa go to school late this morning?

Because she watched TV late last night.

b. Why does Nam have to cook dinner?

Because his mother will be home late.

c. Why does Mrs Vui/ Nam's mother go home late?

Because she has to come to see her mother.

d. Why did Hoa fail her English exam?

Because she didn't learn her lesson carefully.

e. Why can't Nga go to the movies?

Because she has to clean the house.
